Toddler Fun at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC

When I told my crew I wanted to check out the National Building Museum, they looked at me kind of sideways.  Turns out, it may be one of the best kept secrets in DC, for those of us with Littles between the ages of 2 and 6 or so.  It is such a blast!
The stroller accessible entrance is off of G Street, and there is ample street parking in the area.  We did have to circle around twice to grab a spot.  We paid $6 for parking.

Children 2 and under are free, adults are $10 and seniors/students are $7.  A family membership (2 adults, 4 children) is $90, so it may be worth it to spring for that if you plan to go back a few times.

The main area on the lower level is a big open space and running around is encouraged.  Don’t forget to look up.  The building is absolutely gorgeous.  There is a beautiful fountain in the middle, and lots of clean, carpeted area to play in.  The Museum Cafe offers coffee shop style food and drinks.  Aside from yogurt, we did not find a lot of options for our kiddos.  The great news is, the museum allows you to bring in your own food.  We saw lots of families sitting on their brightly colored picnic blanket munching away on their lunch.

The Great Hall has a cart full of numbered blocks to help your kids build a replica of the beautiful arches.  A & E just liked to stack ’em up and knock ’em down.

Head upstairs to the Play Work Build room to watch (or help) your future architects build ramps, forts and almost anything they can imagine.  The foam blocks are easy to lift and the floor is covered in rubber too. There’s also a small table with lots of tiny foam parts to inspire their #blocktastic imaginations.

Needless to say, fun was had by all, and we will be back very soon!
