We’re staying about an hour outside of Memphis, so we decided to drive downtown and check out the town before naptime.
Our first stop was the Peabody Hotel to check out the march of the Peabody Ducks.
There is a longstanding tradition, since the early 1900s of this daily fanfare. The Duck Master shares the history before boarding the elevator to retrieve the ducks from the top floor of the hotel. Soon after, the elevator dings and the ducks file out of the elevator behind him and into the hotel fountain across the lobby.
Kids get a front row seat along the red carpet.
We arrived about 25 minutes early and there was already quite a crowd.
After the ducks, we walked across the street to Huey’s for National Burger Day.
Then, we strolled over to Beale Street to check out the Home of the Blues.
This is such a cool, historic part of town that called for a stop at A. Schwab’s. It is the last remaining “first business” on Beale Street.
We all enjoyed yummy ice cream and milkshakes at the soda fountain.
It was a fun family day, and how we all fell in love with Memphis!
